Why choose an independent agent?


The age old question has been circulating the rungs of the property ladder for decades; do I pick a corporate or independent estate agent? They both have their positive qualities, so which is the better option? We have a strong belief in the ethos that independent agents really care about their clientele and thrive to deliver paramount levels of customer service, which cannot always be replicated in a corporate environment.  


Independent estate agents are commonly based in one branch, or a small network of branches based in a specific area with employers that are familiar with local region. Having staff that are well acquainted with the local landscape is a great advantage, so that they are able to advise on transport links, local amenities and the best places to go. A corporate or online agent may not have the same familiarity with the local area and would lose a few points in favour of the independent agent.


There is a stereotypical wives tale that corporate agents are able to access a greater deal of stock and more registered buyers compared to their independent counterparts and this may have been true way back when. However times have changed and thanks to online portals such as Rightmove and Zoopla, any agent, whether corporate, independent or online can access those buyers, rectifying the assumption that a corporate has their fingers in more pies.


A corporate agent has the benefit of a widespread recognition, with their branding and name known nationwide has an obvious advantage. However in the local area, a successful independent agent will have a recognisable brand in that particular community, which is a greater advantage targeting their demographic. Part and parcel of an independent agents manifesto is a personal hands on approach, taking time and effort to concentrate on the vendors needs and fulfilling their promise of achieving the best possible price.
