The winter lull doesn't seem to affect the property market anymore, especially when everyone is scrolling for a new home to move to on boxing day! Rightmove calls this the "Boxing Day Boom" and says Boxing Day is now the start of the property moving season.
Most of the time all that's required is a bit of TLC and a winter makeover. A winter makeover for your home is all about energising the rooms and the good thing is it doesn't have to be difficult.
Accessorise:
Accessories can change the mood of any space. To create a warm feeling choose throws and fabrics in rich reds and oranges. Add cosy cushions to your sofas and chairs and perhaps a matching bean bag footrest.
Add light
If you want buyers to fully appreciate your home then give it some light!
Avoid harsh lighting and try to create warmth by opting for simple natural glows. Flickering scented candles work brilliantly in winter to give off light as well as make the home look cosy. If it’s too much to paint a wall throw some warm light on it by changing to a coloured bulb.
Remember that it's dark by 4 pm to put up a light on your front porch or get an outdoor light for the pathway, that way buyers can see where they're walking when trying to find your front door.
Warming smells
Some smells can automatically have a warming effect on you. Try some mixed cinnamon stick candles in the living room, put some citrusy soap in the bathroom, lavender filled cushions in the bedroom and sprinkle some ginger in your potpourris.
Exterior facelift
It only needs to be your front porch, make it look inviting by giving the front door down a wash, hanging up a winter garland, and putting down a chunky welcome mat.
Move about
This means moving your furniture about. It’s nice to feel spacious and free in the spring but during winter it’s natural to want to huddle. Be intimate with seating arrangements, create areas where people feel comfy and talk closely. Make sure not to hide potential space though, especially when it comes to Christmas decorations.
Underfoot warmth
It would be lovely to have underfloor heating in the winter, but if you haven’t don’t despair. If your floors are bare hardwood or tiles, lay down area rugs that will create warmth for cold toes and help towards creating comfy areas in your home.
Now get the smell of mince pies and mulled wine wafting from the kitchen, and then get on with selling your home!
