Since the pandemic started it seems that all you hear about are how people want to buy bigger homes with more space. There are, however, still many people who want smaller homes. 
Downsizing makes sense for many people.

It could be that the children have left and now the big home feels too big. For some people, retirement makes them reassess everything and the less they have to do the better it is for them. It may even be a cost-cutting exercise, especially in this climate where so many people have lost their livelihood due to the Covid pandemic.

Whatever the reason for moving to a smaller home we’ve compiled some tips for you to help make it a smooth transition.

Research:
Do your research, check areas of interest on Google, keep an eye on local papers, drive around the neighbourhood and chat to local people.

Belongings:
When downsizing there’s always going to be the question “Where am I going to put all my possessions?” Write a list of all the items that you can’t live without and be ruthless with the ones that you can live without.

Make it manageable: 
If the thought of clearing out the attic is just too overwhelming then make it manageable, bit by bit. Get family and friends involved as there’s bound to be items that they would like to take off your hands.

Organisation:
Take into consideration access points for furniture and items that made it onto your list. Can your belongings get in and out of the property with ease? If you're not sure go through your concerns with a reputable removal company.
Also, if you require smaller tables chairs or sofas, bear in mind that deliveries for new furniture can take a while these days to be delivered so plan for this.

Smart move:
Make a smart move. Some people don’t think through their new lifestyle enough and end up wondering why they moved. If you’re downsizing because you want to play more golf then make sure you move near a golf course, if it’s because you want to do more gardening then you may require a South facing garden. Whatever you want to do more of or less of when you move make sure it is possible in your new home.
