When we first opened in Norwich the UK had just returned to a recession and the economy was described as bumping along the bottom. Add to that the unemployment rate reached a 17 year high of 8.4% but we were positive and nothing dampened our enthusiasm.
Grant Holt was also in positive spirits when we opened the doors of abbotFox because the very next day he scored twice to claim a thrilling victory against Swansea, helping Norwich City climb up the premier league to 8th position!
We started abbotFox with a determination to do things differently; QR codes on sales boards, a brightly styled office, engaging social media, and a fleet of cars that looked like New York taxis.
Go forward ten years and QR codes are now the norm, even our leaflets are just one big QR code, we still love bright colours, our social media is still engaging, but our cars are more grown-up; but then we have aged ten years!
In the beginning, we had only intended to be an estate agency for residential sales, but due to high demand, we added a lettings department and then a mortgage department.
Because of our knowledge of Norfolk, as well as our previous experience in selling luxury homes in London we also got many requests to offer a bespoke service and that's how Bespoke by abbotFox materialised. Bespoke clients understand that their homes require different marketing as well as a different portfolio of prospective buyers and we are more than pleased that we now offer this service. People have asked us was all of this in the business plan and we can honestly say that it wasn't, everything just evolved organically.
During the ten years, we've seen many changes throughout Norwich and Norfolk. Many more housing developments have popped up, luxury apartments have changed the view from Norwich City Football stadium and there's been the development of the Northern Distributor Road (NDR).
We believe that during the next ten years there will be many more changes, especially even more homes popping up due to the demand. Norwich is one of the fastest-growing cities in the UK; more people want to move here, families are getting bigger, people are living longer, and that means more homes will be needed.
Even though Norwich city is one of the UK's most climate-friendly cities we foresee many more green changes coming, for one, Norwich will continue to evolve to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists.
We also predict Norwich City will get to the top of the premier league, nothing is impossible.
We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last ten years. According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), only 40% of small businesses survive past their first five years. It's taken persistence, dedication, motivation, hard work and lots of long hours but we've made it! We owe a lot to local businesses who have supported us, our incredible team of amazing people who have worked at abbotFox through the years and of course, our customers.
We've had the pleasure to have built some incredible relationships with customers during the ten years, selling their homes, helping them to buy their dream homes, finding them places to rent and more.
It's been a great journey so far and we're looking forward to the next ten years.
